9/12 Tea Party Fox News Protest

Lauren and I attended the above-referenced protest. Here are the photos:

Side 1 of Lauren’s poster. This sign actually appeared on a website that was ridiculing posters at the protest. Apparently, they did not sense the sarcasm.

Our goal was to hold this one up next to people who had misleading signs and point to it. This turned out to be easier to do in theory. Regardless, the sign allowed us fit in more with the crowd.

Believe it or not, I did get a couple of compliments and shouts of agreement from some people when they saw this sign.

This is a reference to a famous Glenn Beck clip. And one person seriously praised me for this sign.

We actually saw this sign on the live coverage of the protest, and then as we walked to the protest, we saw it in the trash can. Word to the wise: if you run out of cut-out letters, nobody will judge you for just writing the letter in. A “9” looks absolutely nothing like a “G.”

Several pictures I took looked a lot like this one (aka, a sea of white people and flags). So, consider this a summary.

I found a black guy! He came dressed as a D.C. police officer.

That little girl on the left obviously decided to attend this protest on her own and is definitely not being exploited by her parents. When I was her age, all I could think about was government spending. And by “government spending” I mean “teenage mutant ninja turtles.” Also, I found another black guy. Although, he might be a non-participating photographer.

So many confusing things about this poster. First of all, he apparently endorses euthanasia. Secondly, you gotta love the use of quotation marks - “‘This’ government [if you can even call it a ‘this’!]…” And finally, hello to you too, Morehead City, NC! We will take your recommendation of killing the government under advisement.

I think we can all agree that the maker(s) of this sign tried to do too much. First, they introduced the previously unknown idea of the “heaven bailout,” which presumably is a bailout from heaven. Then, they couched it in a “got milk?” spoof. And finally, they filled the rest of the sign with Bible-y stuff.

“Don’t be sequestered; watch Fox.” aka, “Don’t be sequestered; watch this one single news network.” aka, “Will someone help me understand what the word ‘sequestered’ means?”

“…Fidel Castro was a character in the movie ‘Che’ starring Benicio Del Toro; Benicio Del Toro was in ‘Things We Lost in the Fire’ with Alison Lohman; Alison Lohman was in ‘Where the Truth Lies’ with Kevin Bacon!”

Are you serious? Have you never made a poster in your life? Did you think this protest was just going to be 10 people sitting in a circle?

Additionally, the Obama-Joker poster reminded me of a point I’d like to make. Defenders of this protest say it had nothing to do with invidious sentiments like racism. If that’s the case, then why did I see a ton of signs demonizing Obama and Nancy Pelosi (a minority and a woman) and literally zero posters demonizing Harry Reid (a white male). It’s not like right-wing talking heads don’t rail against Reid as well as Obama and Pelosi, and he’s just as (if not more) powerful than Pelosi. To me, this demonizing seems like nothing more than the fear of a black man and a woman being in positions of power.

To clarify, the guy holding this sign was dressed like a dead person. His point was to show that when you are the victim of a death panel, that means you’re dead.

If this is how your brain thinks about things and then you put it on a poster and go “this is exactly how I want to represent myself,” then you are insane.

Well, we’ve ruled out the possibility that Obama is American, so I suppose France is as good a guess as anywhere else. However, the randomly placed accent mark makes his name sound more Italian than French, I’d say.

I thought only hippies played frisbee during protests. However, it’s good to know that the one uniting factor between the left and the right is douche bags playing frisbee on a patch of grass.

I included this picture only to dispute Glenn Beck’s claim that 1.7 million were at the protest (and I totally know that he’s reading this). Contrast this picture (taken on 4th Street) with the knowledge that somewhere close to 1.5 million people attended the inauguration and the crowd was shoulder-to-shoulder from the Capitol Building to the Lincoln Memorial.

This reminds me of one of the signs our friend, Neil, made for the protest: “Jesus didn’t heal the sick for free, Obama!”

You guys know how much I love bumper stickers.

Neil was having a cordial discussion with Lady Death.

I have to give this group high marks for their use of props. Although, I’m not entirely sure how someone could be a victim of a government program that has not been enacted or even fully detailed yet.
